Kenshi’s Revenge

“In order to bring honor back to his clan and track down their legendary blade, Kenshi Takahashi must confront the demons of his past…”

During the end of his motion capture and stunt coordination work on Mortal Kombat 1, Noah was asked to return to NetherRealm Studios for a full face scan and a chat with Ed Boon, the creative director of NetherRealm. Initially, Noah was told that his likeness would be used for the iconic character Sub-Zero. However, it wasn't until the public saw the MK1 Gameplay Reveal Trailer that Noah realized his likeness was actually being used for the highly anticipated return of the fan-favorite character, Kenshi Takahashi.

After the overwhelmingly positive reception to Kenshi's return and new appearance, our team immediately began pre-production on our live-action Kenshi short film. With Noah, the motion capture artist and likeness of Kenshi himself, we were confident that we could do justice to the character in a way that nobody else could.

With the support of talented actors like Lanny Joon (known for his roles in Wolf Pack and Baby Driver) and an exceptional stunt team, we were able to create a film that our team is extremely proud of.

We have many more stories featuring Kenshi that we can't wait to share, starting with our upcoming film: Kenshi vs Kitana: Battle of Realms.

The Writing

The Music

Composer Brandon Lau joined us on this project to score Kenshi’s Revenge. With numerous music credits from larger features, commercial work and even two of the MK1 trailers, we knew Brandon would knock it out of the park with the final track, which you can listen to below.

The Editing

The full post-workflow from Editing to Sound to VFX was all done by Osu Films team member, Theodore Park.

The entire process spanned over the course of two weeks, from our wrap to our live upload.

Writing a Mortal Kombat short film is no easy task. We wanted to make sure the film had hints of the fun new tone of MK1 while also bringing back some of the grittier dark energy of films like Oldboy or shows like Netflix’s Daredevil. The script was penned by Osu Films team member, Aaron Field.

The Production

It truly takes a village to produce a film of this scale on a near zero budget. With the visual talents of Osu Films team members like Theodore Park and Tommy Trinh combined with the direction and organization from Director Aaron Field and Associate Producer Alec Kern, we were able to execute a high scale action project on a near no-budget six hour shoot.

Spearheading the team, Executive Producer and Lead Actor Noah Fleder also designed all the action for the film on the day, on location.
